General Questions
What is the difference between a trichologist and a dermatologist?
A dermatologist is a doctor who treats skin conditions, including those affecting the scalp, while a trichologist specializes solely in problems affecting the hair and scalp.
Trichologists are not doctors and therefore cannot prescribe medication or give injections, but they can provide you with comprehensive hair health care. At Capilia, our trichology specialists offer you a complete assessment to guide you toward the right solution.
How much hair do we normally lose each day?
Hair loss is considered pathological when the number of hairs lost each day exceeds 100, or when one area of the scalp loses more hair than the rest of the head.
If you notice excessive hair loss or thinning areas, a trichology consultation can help you identify the cause and explore treatment options.
Clinical Treatments
How long does it take to see results from PRP treatment?
Hair loss is usually slowed after the second session, approximately two to three months after the start of treatment. Follicular regrowth is typically visible six to nine months after the first session.
The results are not permanent; a maintenance session is recommended once or twice a year depending on the response to treatment. Contact us to find out if PRP is right for you.
Is scalp micropigmentation permanent?
The pigmentation generally lasts between 2 and 5 years before it begins to fade. A simple touch-up session is then necessary. At least 3 to 4 sessions are required to achieve the desired effect, each spaced at least two weeks apart.
This technique can create the illusion of thicker hair or naturally camouflage scars.
Alternative Solutions
How long does a hair prosthesis last?
The lifespan varies between 12 and 18 months depending on maintenance and use. To maximize the lifespan of your hair prosthesis, it is recommended that you have it maintained at a specialized centre approximately once a month. Our specialists can advise you on the products and maintenance techniques best suited to your prosthesis.
Can you wear a hair prosthesis while playing sports or swimming?
High-quality natural hair prostheses are resistant to water, sweat, and friction. You can wear them during sports activities, at the beach, or in the shower.
However, UV rays damage the hair fibre, so the more you expose yourself to the sun, the faster the fibre will deteriorate. We will advise you on the protective measures to take.

Alma TED Treatment
Is Alma TED treatment painful?
No, Alma TED treatments are generally painless and non-invasive. Since we do not use needles, most patients describe a sensation of vibration or slight warmth. Your technician will adjust the treatment settings to ensure optimal comfort throughout the procedure.
Treatment time is usually 20 to 25 minutes.
Am I a good candidate for Alma TED treatments?
Alma TED is an ideal solution for men or women experiencing thinning hair or hair loss. A hair consultation with a Capilia expert is necessary to assess the cause of your hair condition and determine your eligibility for treatment.
The treatment is not recommended for:
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women
- People with cancer or a history of cancer in the treatment area within the last 5 years
- Psoriasis in the treatment area
- People with heart disease
- Several other medical conditions are contraindicated for this treatment.
How long does it take to see results with Alma TED?
The response to treatment and the speed of results vary depending on the severity of the hair condition and the individual's hair growth cycle.
- Within the first month of treatment, a slowdown in hair loss is usually noticeable.
- During the second and third months, new hair will begin to appear, and existing hair will gain volume, thickness, and become darker.
- After 3 months, the bald areas of the scalp will begin to fill in significantly, eventually covering more of the scalp.
